Incarceration affects 2 in 4 Americans. We think this is a problem worth solving because it touches so many people in so many ways.

For 18 years, we’ve been focused on bringing the gift of understanding people to prisons.
 

Our hands-on approach and continuous efforts with a population often written off by society are working in a big way.

The goal is to reduce recidivism by teaching better communication. This takes the form of weekly visits to some of the most notorious facilities in the country.

Public speaking is at the center of our strategy. Something great happens when people hold a microphone and stand in front of a room filled with strangers.

We’re doing something right because our programs are growing. The feedback we get from students, their families, and the administration is something we’re very proud of.

In some facilities, our programs have become so popular we’ve had to add additional classes.

Throughout the year we host speaking competitions between units that draw big audiences and receive tremendous support.

When family members attend these competitions, students get a rare chance to show everyone the best version of themselves. Speeches and debates that take months of preparation become social proof that change is possible.

What none of us expected were the benefits we receive from running these programs. The satisfaction derived from seeing people who struggled to communicate becoming powerful speakers is hard to describe, but it sure feels good.

And that’s all the motivation we need.

The word philanthropy has become synonymous with writing big checks, but what good are resources without people? To us, the value of showing up is equally important as raising money.
